Well, I can only speak for myself, not for anyone else: There are many reasons. He's calm, had a troubled past, he defends his comrades with his life... But most important for me: He is VERY intelligent in emotional things. And he always uses that knowledge to help people. Best example: When he supported Sasuke after the fight during the Chu-Nin exams. He KNEW he'd disgrace Sasuke if he'd go there and help Sasuke up. So he just appeared behind him and supported him with his knee like accidentally.
