You knwo, seriously, when I first read/saw it, I was like "OMG, that's SOOOOOOO sweet!", too. But after thinking about again, I find Gai was quite selfish here - he wanted Lee to do the surgery because HE, GAI, wanted to make a great Ninja out of Lee. He wanted to become his OWN dream, not LEE's dream, true. And what would be the sense in Gai comitting suicude in case Lee would have died? That wouldn't make Lee alive again.

Okay say what you want Talee Hyro but that part was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sweet! I cried on this episode. T~T I'm so glad my brother wasn't there......

I've read a fanfic once where he died. The plot was concentrating on Kakashi and Gai, and it truly was not bad, but I was so depressed after reading it - Lee, dead?
