Haibane Renmei

Haibane Renmei is an anime series about a group of not-quite-human people called haibane living in a human city. Born from cocoons, they do not remember their past. Growing wings and given a halo, they are not allowed to leave the city. They are watched over by an order called the Haibane Renmei.
The series starts with the birth of a haibane named Rekka, who dreams of falling, only to awaken in a cocoon within the Old Home, where a group of the Haibane live. They work in the city, but can't deal with money. Generaly they live a fairly care-free existance, but there is a goal that they have to accomplish, after which they vanish, and no one knows where to.
